Labeling Men: What inspired your collection this season?
David Tlale: Although it was predominantly centered around womenswear, my limited menswear collection formed support to the womenswear. The colours are soft with delicate fabrics, while silhouettes played with fitted to flowing designs…allow the summer breeze to breathe seep through for coolness.
LM: How would you "label" your collection?
DT: The main collection is labelled or themed “Female Allure,” we still get a strong sense of allure in the menswear. It’s really for men who are liberated, daring and open in their outlook of life.
LM: What is one piece from your collection that every guy should own?
DT: The big thing right now is our signature kaftan, which is cut high in the front with a low, almost trailing back panel.
LM: What is one piece you had the most "fun" designing?
DT: Actually I had fun with the entire collection, but I particularly liked the final look I adorned on Tyson.
LM: How was it to work with Tyson Beckford?
DT: He’s such a good sport and very easy person to work with. He’s always supportive, friendly and totally approachable. Star quality right there…it’s no wonder he has longevity in this game.
LM: Three Words to summarize your collection?
DT: Collection: Daring, Fun and Wearable!
