NYFW A/W2015: CFDA x Target Event
Target has become such a strong part of fashion, it wasn't shocking when they had a New York Fashion Week event for their Accessories designers chosen for their CFDA program at the Target Gallery. Walking the room we saw stylist Lauren Rae Levy noting the collections, GQ Insider Keino Benjamin ogling over the well designed goodies, and guests sipping on champagne to the tune of DJ Harley Viera Newton spinning on the 1s and 2s.
Our favorites from the bunch were the sunglasses made by "Grey Ant". The unusual shapes and angular designs had us actually excited for a sunglass line. We talked to designer Grant Krajecki and he told us his inspiration for the collection aired from the 1940's-50's era. You can find his collection at high-end stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, ShopBop, and their own online site www.greyant.com.
Another showstopper, among many, was "Gemma Redux" by designer Rachel Dooley who we caught up with over some bubbly.
On her inspiration for the collection:
"This collection is called 'Color Bleed' the inspiration is the idea of deteriorating graphite on industrial walls...The metals are all industrial design, my background is in mechanical engineering so it has a very industrial base, but then the paint on it is all hand-painted and there is a drippy technique that covers it with something a little bit more fluid and serpentine."
Based in New York, Dooley added that her designs can be found in Le Bon Marché in Paris, Joyce in Hong Kong, and in the states they are in Intermix and also their own online store at http://gemmaredux.com.
